I've been playing video games for all of my life. From arcade games when I was 4 to having all the consoles and handheld systems at the age of 30. Playing games has been a big part of my life.
Growing up there were areas that I missed some of the major consoles of the days. I always had the current handheld systems, but the consoles of the time I missed out on. I never did have a Game Gear though as I was given the option of either getting the GameBoy or the Game Gear. I chose the GameBoy, which paid off when Pokemon came out.
Now the consoles that I'm referring to are the SNES, Saturn and Dreamcast. Of those I have bought a Dreamcast within in the past year or so to play some of the games I missed. I had to buy a new controller and memory card for it, but I've enjoyed the time I've played it.
My memories of the Dreamcast mainly focus around the time we went to Disney World when I was 14. I can't remember which park it was that had it, but there was a pavilion that had a whole section of Dreamcasts with a bunch of different games. I spent a lot of time in that section playing all the games and loved it. My dad had to almost drag me away from it because I spent too much time there. Sadly I never got one when we got home.
The SNES was one of those consoles that I actually didn't really have much desire to play when I was younger. My best friend had one and the game I played the most was a Jurassic Park game. Never got too far in it, but I did play a fair amount of it.
My uncle Matt also had one and I played it a few times whenever we visited my grandparents on my mom's side. We didn't visit much because they were smokers and I couldn't stand the smoke, but the times we did I remember playing Mortal Kombat a lot. I also played one of the Mario (3 or World?)games, but wasn't a fan.
I probably tried to get one at some point, but never tried to hard. I had a Genesis and a NES so I was happy with those. The Saturn was something that I didn't even know about till I was older. I never played one, but am learning more about what I missed out and have been looking at buying one.
Unfortunately the Saturn isn't the cheapest thing to get nowadays. It's not hundreds of dollars, but still rather expensive. I thought about getting a Japanese version, but I'll probably just get a US version. Also, the games aren't that cheap either. Panzer Dragoon Saga could cost over $700 which is more than 5 times the cost of the console itself. I could get the Japanese version, but I wouldn't know what the heck was going on. Guess it's time to start learning Japanese!
