Most of the time I will wait to see a movie when it comes out on blu-ray. This is mainly because I enjoy being where I'm most comfortable. The thought of going to a theater where it's always a roll of the dice on whether you're going to have a nice experience or are going to be annoyed by the people around you.
The nice thing about most theaters these days is that they have assigned seating. This is a god send and the fact that it took so long to get there is sad. It's also nice that the theater that I mainly go to has recliner seats so it's mostly a relaxing experience, unless the idiot in front of you doesn't recline back. Yes, that has happened on multiple times.
The thing about assigned seating though is it makes it really easy to know when there is someone that will be sitting next to you. You can see the seats that are available and those that aren't. So it boggles my mind when people pick a seat next to me when there were plenty of seats around that they could have sat. Heck they could have sat just one seat over.
The best example of this was when I went to see Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. There was a total of 7 people in the theater. Yes, I counted. So there was plenty of space around me. But low and behold, this young couple sat right next to me on one side, and another person sat on the other side of me. The person on my right, was a seat over. The people on my left were not.
How, in a theater that had at least 7 rows in it, 3 of the additional people besides me sat right around me. How? What? Are these people insane? And to top it all off, the girl sitting next to me was talking to the movie. Good movie, nightmare of an experience.
Now that's not to say I hate people sitting next to me when watching a movie. If I know them and went to the movie with them, I would expect it. I also expect that if they want to say something that they would do it in a quiet manner too.
The main issue tends to be that I tend to go to the movies alone. Doctor Strange was the last time I went to see a movie with some friends. Before that I can't even remember. Then again movies aren't really the place to socialize so maybe that's not the worst thing in the world.
